SPCK International Study Guide : A Guide to Isaiah 40 - 66
Outline: Isaiah 40 - 66 is not only a well-known and much loved part of Christian Scripture, but essential background for understanding the New Testament. It is also important because it grew out of the deepest crisis in Israel's history. Christians today too live in a time of crisis, of deep social and political unrest. Like the Israelites in Babylon, we need to reconstruct our tradition faith, to ask who we are, who God is, and what we must do to serve him. The author was president of the Thailand Theological Seminary, and also taught at Trinity Theological College, Singapore. In this book, he guides our study of the prophet's message to the captive exiles as they faced temptations to despair, idolatry and narrow nationalism, in a world which held as little security for them as ours does for us today. The book includes special notes on the historical background, and additional studies on major themes and ideas to support the commentary. There are alos questions for study and further discussion.
